Dishcrawl Dining through South Park

Dishcrawl South Park happened a few weeks ago, and spotlighted all the great restaurants there. Quaint, quiet yet awesome, South Park really has a great spread of different and delicious eats.  It was a pleasure seeing old faces and meeting new faces.  Dishcrawl is a great way bringing people together with a common joy… eating!

(To join in the fun and food, the next Dishcrawl is focusing on Downtown. Sign up for the September 24th event, with DowntownRob as emcee! Check out http://dishcrawl.com/downtownsd/ for details and tickets, now on sale.)

Dishcrawl South Park kicked off at Alchemy.  Alchemy not only has tasty craft cocktails but serves a menu with local flare.  Ron, co- owner graciously shared his love for Alchemy and all the involvement within our community.  It really is awesome to hear how involved Alchemy is in creating awareness for eating health, local and smart.  Chef Ricardo Heredia prepared a lovely trio plate for each guest consisting of Fried Pickles, Cucumber Gazpacho and the most delicious Taro shelled Pork Pelly Taco that makes your mouth water and craving more.  Ron is definitely doing it right and I can assure you Alchemy is a must in South Park.

The second stop featured Buona Forchetta.  Before you read any futher put this at the top of your list!  This Italian family ran restaurant provides only the best quality of real Italian ingredients.  Every dish is prepared with a lot of heart.  Mattaeo, the owner, brought out in traditional family style, the biggest platter of Meatballs smothered in the most perfect red sauce, the Sottoterra salad consisting of carrots, fennel, parsnips, onion, mixed greens, goat cheese and dijon vinaigrette – literally the best salad I have ever tasted and a plate of perfectly fried Calamari.  After all of that, we continued with an assortment of amazing pizzas including Margherita Pizza with the most fresh and homemade mozzarella we could get our hands on, Prosciutto and Truffle Oil Pizza, Eggplant with Roasted Vegetable and on on we ate!  The Italian culture is so giving and only wants to provide and entertain and that was more than what we could ask for.

Dishcrawl continued to a small hidden café known as Piacere Mio.  Not so hidden anymore!  The family here is tied with the family at Buona Forchetta so we received the same love for food and entertainment. Piacere Mio is introducing a new dessert to their menu called “Gelato Cookie” local, homemade gelato from the roots of Bologna Italy, made here in Pacific Beach and sandwiched between two of the best chocolate chip cookies you can sink your teeth into, this is one dessert you will crave over and over.  Thank you to Stefano and is team for being so generous and feeling like family.  Piacere Mio was great, please go back and say Ciao!

2013 Silver Fork award winner from San Diego Home and Garden Magazine, Eclipse Chocolat Bar gave a tasty grand finale.  The team is as friendly as they come and everyone has a passion for chocolate.  They also are all about what using local ingredients and making what is in season so their taste can never disappoint.  We were delighted to taste many different assortments of Chocolate including Truffle  dipped in Lavender poppy seed and Vanilla bean, Brownies with Melted Caramel and Pecans, Merengue and Rocky Road chocolate squares that I still dream out.  Mikee, Eclipse event coordinator, shared their vision and goals of the bistro and informed us of brunch on the weekends and the monthly supper club.  Eclipse Chocolat has the heart of this neighborhood and anything chocolate goes.

Everyone was full (literally) with excitement of the foodie fun and amazing dishes that Dishcrawl South Park provided.  With a little bit of everything to eat, South Park is a definite destination in San Diego.
