Snooze is Your New Wake Up Call

We could stop at Snooze with this category “Desserts for Breakfast” — the options are ever changing, always delicious, and very unique.

Snooze A.M. Eatery is a fantastic new restaurant in Hillcrest that serves breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. Their Hillcrest location is the sixth restaurant in all, however, the other 5 are located in Colorado. We are glad they decided to make San Diego their breakout location!

The menu is categorized under titles that really do live up to their names,”Pancake Bliss” includes Pineapple Upside Down, Red Velvet (not on the menu now), Sweet Potato, and new flavors- Coffee & Donuts, and Vermonater pancakes. Under “Sweet Utopia,” there are options ranging from Sticky Bun french toast to Smores french toast. And, if you can’t make your mind up, they let you order 1/2 portions, so you can try both of those mouth watering pancake dishes. This 1/2 portion option is one of the things I love most about Snooze. It’s such a simple way to keep your patrons happy and coming back.

The food is inventive and delicious, and the  upbeat atmosphere reflects the tone and sentiment of the staff. It is bright and comfortable, and the music is always set to some reggae so you feel like you’re on vacation even if  you’re stopping in on your lunch break.

Other noteworthy points about Snooze is that they hand select their produce and beef, and they aim to use locally grown food whenever possible. They cook with natural, free ranging meat for the best and tastiest results. Every recipe is made in-house from scratch. And with all of this great food, must come superb coffee as well. Thankfully, they didn’t disappoint here either. They serve organic coffee that is picked and flown in directly from Guatemala every week. It’s a great blend that is full flavored, a far cry from the watered down, luke warm coffee that you often find in so many breakfast restaurants.

For first timers, I would suggest the pancake flight which offers a choice of any 3 pancakes on the menu. If you prefer the saltier breakfast options, the hollandaise dishes are also fantastic and you can do 1/2 portions on those as well. The Bella! Bella! Benny is my favorite.

All in all, Snooze has mastered the art of creating a restaurant where the food, the staff, and the atmosphere are all superb.  Their company goal is to bring the best breakfast and lunch experience around, and I would have to agree that they manage to accomplish this every time I eat there. Aside from the food, I respect their company endeavour to be as owner, Adam Schlegel says, “the most sustainable restuarant on the planet.” This is a noble goal and one that they work towards everyday when they recycle around 90% of all of their waste. Well done!

Other Dessert for Breakfast spots we recommend, and may write about soon: Bibby’s Crepes, Beaumont’s and Brockton Villa (Coast Toast), The Cottage, and Cafe 21’s Tiramisu Pancakes.
