The Commons Deconstructed

Jake Pescatello, building up The Commons

I interviewed Jake Pescatello about his new venture The Commons, partnering with the awesome owner of Dirty Birds in Pacific Beach, Leigh Gibson, in a new concept of burgers, hot dogs, tater tots, beer, combined with a friendly atmosphere, cork top bars, great cocktails and great prices.

The new Horton Plaza Park

Jake comes from the East Coast, managed a few venues in his days there, and then after a successful run in the financing market, he sold his company and was looking for something new. He happened upon a great opportunity when the owners of Lincoln Room talked one night about wanting to focus on La Puerta, and offered up the location for their exciting new venue.

The Lincoln Room demo work, The Commons is being born.

He says he’s looking forward to the new Horton Plaza Park (estimated to be completed by the end of 2013, details here), the new restaurant taking over Red C Lounge next door, (Belo is out, too), and the new spot on the corner of 4th and Broadway, where Payless used to be. All of this renovation is good for Downtown, and good for his business, saying, “Westfield agreed that the outdoor park will host over 200 events a year, from big holiday parties to weekly farmers markets, concerts and movies. All of those people will see us right across the street.” With the huge open windows, lofty open air design, it’s sure to be fun, casual, and inviting. Combining the great food that Dirty Birds has a reputation for, with a fun and casual Downtown spot, The Commons sounds like a winner to me.
