Eat to Impress

I ran into AT&T yesterday and the rep asked me, “What do you do?”  After I told him that I reviewed restaurants, he quickly whipped out his iPad and asked me to list some restaurants so he could  impress his girlfriend.  I thought you might like to see my list to use for your own use as well.  It could be to impress the family or a boss, but these places get my complete approval. These are in random order, but starts with one of my favorites.

Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen ~ Farm to table ~  Oceanside

*You could easily drive right by this place BUT don’t!  Customer service has always been awesome and make sure to tell Roddy I sent you 🙂  The short ribs are …..scrumpdillyumptious.  Yes, that’s a technical term.

Pomegranate ~ Russian/Georgian ~ North Park

*This place is a must.  I realize it might be far for some of you, but it’s worth it.  Everything on the menu is authentic — you can’t go wrong.  Make sure to ask what the specials are.

Kous Kous ~ Mediterranean ~ Hillcrest

*You might question my judgement when you drive to this place, but you’ll never question me again once you walk in to Kous Kous.  This place is so romantic!

Sublime ~ American ~ San Marcos

*The best macaroni menu I’ve found.  You must try the Rapture:  Mac n Cheese with pulled pork and caramelized onions.  Don’t forget to ask for a side of BBQ size.

Crush ~ Italian ~ Solana Beach

*Service was impeccable and the Eggplant Parm was the best!

Hernandez Hideaway ~ Mexican ~ Escondido

*This place beats ALL other “authentic” Mexican venues throughout San Diego.  Plus, the location on Lake Hodges makes for a memorable experience every time.  They don’t have a website and I don’t agree with any of the Yelp reviews..19320 Lake Dr,
Escondido, CA 92029

Mamma Teresa’s ~ Italian ~ Poway

*Traditional authentic Italian.  Everything is homemade.  Order the Chicken Parm with Eggplant!!

Haritna Mediterranean ~ La Mesa

*A fun little place with a Hookah Lounge.

Lion’s Share ~ Gaslamp

*Interesting menu…a little wacky, but they try hard to be original and it pays off.

Q’ero ~ Peruvian ~ Encinitas

*Make sure to make a reservation and plan to sit and enjoy for long meal.  They believe in enjoying the whole experience and not just ordering, eating, and out.  So don’t be surprised if the service is much slower here.

The Original Sand Crab Tavern ~ Casual Seafood ~ Escondido

*Do you like the idea of Joe’s Crab Shack?  Ya, me too!  But the food and the atmosphere is just….so not fill in blank.  TOSCT is located in a business center.  Don’t be surprised.  Crab gets dumped on your table.  Don’t be surprised.  Come here for a really fun experience.

I’m sure I’ll have more to add and I’m sure I’m missing a few of my favorites.  I’ll make a new list soon…
